About the Skin Resurfacing Technology

The Quanta YouLaser MT represents a quantum leap in anti-ageing laser technology The YouLaser Fractional Mixed Technology is a state of the art ablative and non-ablative fractional laser, offering unrivalled results in laser resurfacing. Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre clinicians have pioneered in laser resurfacing technology for over 20 years, having trialled and tested many technologies.

The laser utilises an innovative mixed laser technology offering exceptional results for skin resurfacing, skin rejuvenation, skin tightening and scar removal, it emits BOTH fractional CO2 ablative and 1540nm non-ablative laser wavelengths combining to create the best results with little to no downtime.

The two wavelengths 10,600nm Co2 and 1540nm can be emitted sequentially or simultaneously or individually, maximising the benefits of both these gold standard technologies in laser resurfacing. Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre clinicians can determine the number of treatments required for best results, although there is no limit to tailoring the treatment or to the extent of resurfacing available.

Understanding CO2 Laser Treatment

The carbon dioxide laser treatment, commonly also referred to as a CO2 laser resurfacing treatment, is often used to treat skin that has been damaged by chronic sun exposure, reduce lines and wrinkles, reduce hyperpigmentation, and stimulate collagen to improve skin texture and tightness.

The 10,600nm wavelength of the CO2 laser is attracted to the water within the skin. As water is one of the primary components of our skin, the laser vaporises layers of skin. The vaporisation of the tissue assists in the skin resurfacing and repairs signs of ageing and sun damage.

CO2 laser treatment can be both fractional and non-fractional. In order to carry out laser skin resurfacing and rejuvenation, the MLAC Dermal Clinicians use CO2 fractional laser resurfacing.

As non-fractionated CO2 laser treatment has a much longer downtime owing to the fact that the laser removes the entirety of the skin’s surface. Layers of skin are ablated along with the pigmentation and wrinkles in this treatment process. CO2 ablations are performed at Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre Senior Dermal Clinicians and Registered Nurses.

Non-fractional ablative CO2 may be used on localised areas, in particular on thick scars, keloid scars and lesions. Full face skin resurfacing is performed using the fractional CO2 laser technology in mixed method, using ablative and non ablative lasers simultaneously, offering superior results without the downtime of CO2 non fractional alone. Fractional treatment involves firing columns of laser into the skin, often deeper, while leaving some of the skin intact. With the treated site reduced, the time needed for recovery is significantly reduced too.

Fractional CO2 skin resurfacing is used to treat a number of conditions at the MLAC clinic such as pigmentation, wrinkles, age spots, fine lines, crow’s feet, scarring, enlarged oil glands, dull skin, warts, and much more. The texture of the skin can also be improved using the method. This method is also recommended as a treatment option to help tighten the skin for a more youthful appearance.

Immediately after a CO2 laser resurfacing, you may notice a sunburn sensation, redness and swelling at the site of treatment that subsides over the next few days. taking place. Flaking and scabbing of the skin is also to be expected.

The cost of the treatment varies depending on the extent of the area being treated and the condition. Book in for consultation at Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre to have the skin properly assessed.

The 1540nm non-ablative fractional laser creates deep microchannels within the skin whilst the ablative CO2 10,600nm removes the tiny ablative dots of tissue. This technology harnesses the benefits of the non-ablative 1540 and the ablative 10,600nm CO2 lasers to change the surface as well as the deeper collagen layer. The procedure removes microchannels of the damaged tissue stimulating the skin’s natural repair processes to regenerate new stimulating new collagen, tightens the skin, repairs damage caused by ageing and sun damage and improves other skin imperfections.

There is no comparison to other fractional technologies as the unique combination of laser wavelengths offers a far greater effect than any other laser on the market today. This combination offers the best results by simultaneously resurfacing the skin and inducing dermal changes with no downtime (depending on requirement and treatment settings.

Most patients see significant improvement after just one mixed technology laser resurfacing treatment. However, depending on the skin or scar condition and the laser settings used, 1 to 3 treatments may be required.

Patients with light to medium skin tones with ageing conditions or scars will benefit from YouLaser treatment.

Any part of the face or body can be treated. It can be used to treat the full face or can be localised to the area such as wrinkles around the eyes or mouth areas, where the first signs of ageing often begin. It is uniquely effective for stretchmarks, mummy tummy, back of the hands, neck, décolletage and scars anywhere on the body.

Most patients describe the treatment as a series of fast zaps. A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the area prior to treatment to prevent discomfort.

Many patients comment on an obvious improvement one week after treatment, however new collagen and remodelling begins to show 6 weeks to 3 months following treatment. Results continue to improve for months after treatment.

Depending on the treatment settings, with mild treatment makeup can generally be applied the following day. With aggressive treatments, more healing time is required, in which case, 2-5 days post-treatment.

After treatment, the skin appears sunburned and may be mildly swollen. Patients generally report little or no discomfort post-treatment, however, vigorous exercise is not recommended for 24-48 hours. During post care, patients apply post-treatment balm to the skin for four to five days and should limit sun exposure and wear protective clothing.
