The Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre clinicians provide clients with a complete range of effective and advanced laser treatments for Rosacea. A course of rosacea laser treatments Melbourne clients struggling with this condition can find relief and obtain long term clearance.
Rosacea is a chronic condition that most commonly presents in men and women within the middle aged bracket, with a tendency to have higher prevalence in women. Rosacea is a progressive condition, identified through a grading process that allows Clinicians to monitor the symptoms. Rosacea is characterized initially by visible capillary dilation (telangiectasia) and recurrent episodes of persistent flushing and redness which is accompanied by an increased sensation of warmth and swelling (oedema) due to the acute inflammation that underlies the condition.
Progression of the condition can result in the appearance of both papules and pustules, with clients experiencing Rhinophyma (coarse and thickened skin on the nose) and ocular (eye) involvement in the higher grades of Rosacea.

Due to the chronic nature of rosacea the treatment intervention aims to reduce the rate of progression, relieve symptoms, offering longer term resolution rather than a cure. Due to the multifactorial nature of rosacea a treatment approach including cosmeceutical products and several laser technologies that are specifically targeted at treating haemoglobin, inflammation, acne and thickened skin are required.
It is recommended to complete a course of 3 – 6 Nd: YAG 1064nm laser treatments; 30 mins appointments at 3-4 week intervals to effectively treat Rosacea. The Nd: YAG Laser will target the transient flushing, its intensity and general facial redness and any inflammatory acne spots. It can also be used to specifically to treat any dilated broken capillaries that are visible. Unlike the Pulse Dye laser, the Nd:YAG does not leave any purpura (bruise-like marks), instead there is no downtime and commonly patients look and feel immediately better following treatment.
More recently the Mixed Laser resurfacing has been highly effective in obtaining long term resolution of Rosacea flare ups. Due to the uniqueness of this dual wavelength laser, it effectively improves the Rosacea condition and its surface appearance.
Each case is assessed based on the symptoms presenting and the skin appearance. It is expected that treatment intervention at some level will be necessary to establish ongoing benefits and maintain clearance.
Treatment may involve both or either laser and light technologies to target the blood vessels, inflammatory processes and skin thickening. Several technologies may be necessary to provide optimum results. One of the senior Dermal Clinicians at Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre will assess and recommend a treatment plan incorporating the appropriate laser or light modalities.
Immediately post treatment the skin may exhibit temporary increased redness with some clients experiencing an immediate improvement in their inflammation and redness. A course of treatments is required to relieve symptoms and provide longer term resolution to the condition. A shorter series of yearly maintenance and flare up treatments are recommended for management.
The Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Dermal Clinicians work collaboratively with client’s Dermatologists and /or General Practitioner to ensure continued care. A comprehensive consultation with one of the Senior Dermal Clinicians is necessary.
