What is Dermoscopy?

Dermoscopy is the process of examining lesions of the skin, through a Dermoscope. The Dermoscope uses magnification and illumination to allow close viewing of the lesions’ intricate patterns associated with benign and malignant lesions.

All skin lesion checks are performed with Dermoscope. This is particularly beneficial when considering treatment strategies for lesion removal, Laser skin treatments and for the recommendation of corrective skin care products and sun protection.

The senior Dermal Clinicians at Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre are qualified in Dermoscopy, having completed the Post Graduate Advanced Certificate in Dermoscopy at the Australasian College of Cutaneous Oncology for the identification for skin cancers and skin lesions. This allows the clinicians to perform checks for skin cancers and identify benign lesions prior to their removal.

What is Mole Removal?

Mole Removal at Melbourne Laser & Aesthetic Centre is performed be the senior Dermal Clinicians; Tania Caputo and Tania Fognini. Mole Removal is a general term used, however the type of skin lesion needs to be assessed prior to removal.

If there are any suspicious moles, the MLAC clinicians will refer on, for further examination by one of the Dermatologists and expert skin cancer doctors with whom they work collaboratively.

  • What is Precision Cautery?
  • What is CO2 Laser ablation?
  • Which skin lesions can be treated?

Precision Cautery is also referred to as electrocautery or fine needle diathermy in the literature. It is the process of cauterisation of tissue or lesion.

The method however now varies greatly from the traditional method which was not as precise as it is at MLAC. Varying probe types allow for more accurate treatment. From skin tag probes to the finest of probes (as fine as hair) are used depending on the skin condition, scar or skin lesion.

The method precisely destroys or coagulates targeted tissue, reducing collateral damage. It is also used to stimulate new collagen and collagen remodelling. The Dermal Clinicians at MLAC are renowned for their fine cautery techniques.

Is Precision Cautery different from Plasma pen treatment?

Precision Cautery and Plasma pen are similar, they can both be used to stimulate new collagen, tighten, lift and reduce lines, remove lesions and is used in combined treatment in scar reduction.

This method can be used on:

  • Upper & lower eyelid,
  • Crow’s feet
  • Cheek (smile lines)
  • Upper lip
  • Nasolabial
  • Forehead
  • Skin lesions
  • Scars

CO2 stands for Carbon Dioxide laser; it is an ablative laser which is used for its efficacy in removing benign skin lesions. It is also used in Laser Resurfacing for skin and scar treatment.
