Poikiloderma

Acne

What is Poikiloderma?

Poikiloderma of Civatte is a condition that is caused from chronic sun exposure. The severity is dependent on the duration and intensity of sun exposure, constitutive skin colour (Fitzpatrick skin type) and the capacity to tan. This condition is characterised by demarcated areas on both sides of the neck featuring vessels and brown pigment. It also may exhibit goose skin characteristics due to UV damage to elastin.

Poikiloderma Treatment
  • How is Poikiloderma treated?
  • What are the immediate post treatment effects and long term results?

Treatment involves targeting the blood vessels and brown pigment associated with the Poikiloderma condition with specific laser technologies. The skin texture can then be addressed by resurfacing with Mixed Fractional Laser and/or  Fractora – RF Fractional and for skin tightening.

Mild inflammation post laser treatment can be expected with darkening of superficial pigment. Pigmentation is gradually shed over the 5 to 7 days following laser treatment. A course of treatment is required to address the blood vessels and pigmentation associated with the condition.

Fractora – RF Fractional is then recommended to target the skin texture, tightening and further improving the colour.
