What is Eczema?

Eczema, also known as Atopic Dermatitis, is a genetic condition which induces chronic inflammation of the skin. It presents as red, itchy and scaly patches of skin and is most commonly seen in babies and young children. Eczema typically occurs inside the elbows and behind the knees, however can present anywhere on the body. It is caused by an overactive immune system and as such severity and symptoms can vary on a day to day basis.

How is Eczema treated?

Low level laser therapy, laser treatment and Cosmeceutical products are ideal for assisting in the management of eczema. LLLT therapy utilizes coherent light to deliver photon energy deep into the skin without causing any heat, pain or adverse reactions. The photon energy stimulates cellular activity within the tissues activating and accelerating the body’s natural healing response, reducing inflammation and discomfort caused by eczema.

Jane Iredale mineral make up is ideal for eczema prone skins. It’s anti-irritant and low allergy formulation is perfect for sensitive and reactive skin types and also provides coverage and sun protection.

What are the immediate post treatment effects and long term results?

LLLT is also known as cold laser as it does not cause a heat sensation like other commonly used laser treatments. Generally no sensation is felt at all during or immediately following LLLT. LLLT reduces inflammation, increases cellular metabolism and production of reactive oxygen species (free radicals). Following LLLT the symptoms of eczema will subside and begin to feel more comfortable. This treatment can be used for management of flare ups in conjunction with cosmeceutical products and diet and lifestyle changes.
