SYRINGOMAS

What are Syringomas?

Syringomas appear as small bumps that develop under the surface of the skin. They are harmless skin growths of the sweat gland. Onset usually occurs during or after puberty. They can range in size from 1 to 3mm in diameter and most commonly present on the eyelids and around the eyes, however can also occur in other areas such as, underarms, and chest.

How is Syringomas treated?

Syringomas do not reside by themselves, therefore if they become cosmetically concerning, they are removed by either diathermy or laser ablation. Although the Syringomas are effectively treated, removal will not prevent reoccurrence.

What are the immediate post treatment effects and long term results?

The Syringomas are cauterised by fine needle diathermy either insulated or uninsulated or alternatively ablated by laser treatment. The area is inflamed and becomes mildly crusty for a few days post treatment. A moisturising ointment is recommended to be continued for 5 to 7 days to optimize healing.

A touch up treatment may be required with very large Syringomas. Textural improvement may be required for those with many Syringomas therefore Fractional RF may be recommended.

A comprehensive consultation with one of the Senior Dermal Clinicians is necessary.
