STRETCH MARKS

What are Stretch marks?

Stretch marks occur during periods of rapid growth such as puberty, pregnancy and weight gain. During these periods of the rate of growth is too fast for the skin and results in breakage of elastin fibres. When dermal fibres break they become red, pink or purple in colour and are commonly recognised as stretch marks. Stretch marks can have different appearances depending on age, location and cause of stretch marks and skin type. They can appear indented, coloured, white or grey, singular lines or branch like patterns and can spread over large areas of the body.

How are Stretch marks treated?

Treatments for Stretch marks aim to remodel and reduce their appearance. The most effective treatments for stretch marks include: Fractional RF treatment – Fractora, skin needling and laser resurfacing treatments.

What are the immediate post treatment effects and long term results?

Following Fractora, Laser resurfacing or skin needling, a period of inflammation is expected. The stretch marks appear reddened gradually subsiding. The stretch marks become less obvious in colour and texture with each treatment.

A comprehensive consultation with one of the Senior Dermal Clinicians is necessary.
